In the recent ASM Leadership Talk Series (see preceding post), I mentioned a number of crises in my life.
I was asked a similar question at the ManuLife Asia Leadership Townhall in November 2020. Kah Siang Khoo (CEO of ManuLife Asia) asked me what were the fond and not so fond periods of my career. I mentioned “The Championship Team” period in Prudential 1992-1998, and “The Cultural Revolution” period in NTUC Income 2007-2012 as the two best periods of my career.
These periods were forged out of the crises in those times.
Easier said then done. Opportunities are often born out of crises. It is helpful to have a sense of perspective (birds’ eye view) and not to be too anchored in present bias.
