International Volunteers Day

In celebrating Volunteers Day last week, I thanked our thousands of volunteers in a short video.

I also said three things :

Privilege – It is indeed a privilege that are able to volunteer. We have the time, resources and capability to do so, and we were chosen. Many would like to do it , but were not chosen. Or they cannot even come forward because of personal circumstances.

Obligation – For those of us who can, it is our obligation to do so, as Francis Bacon said, “All of us are debtors to our profession. ” The future of our profession depends on volunteers today.

Example – Volunteers must set standards and examples – in committing time, being punctual, prepared for meetings, providing good work and delivering on commitments and accountability. The profession can only thrive when we have good and committed volunteers and Executives.
